It’s hot outside! Enough said. We want fun things to do in this heat without a lot of prep work! Now you can fill an entire day with fun! I am excited to share our Simple Sensory Play Series we did as part of the Sensory Play Blog Hop. Sensory play doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. In fact, in this post I will share 7 simple sensory play ideas all with one bag of ice!
It was a warm day and the boys needed something to entertain them. We thought and thought about ways we could both cool off and have some learning fun. I was so excited when they helped me come up with 7 fantastic sensory play ideas. In fact, they came up a few more as we were playing, and we might just have to do this again some time soon to share.
One of the best things about all of these activities with ice, is that they address all seven senses. Whether you have a child with sensory processing or not, sensory play is a vital part of child development. Sometimes coming up with ideas to ignite each sense can be tricky. Hopefully, this list of ideas for one bag of ice will help you see how simple sensory play can be!

3. Get in some “heavy work” or proprioceptive input with the Push and Dump Relay Race.
4. Set up an Icy Sound Lab to discover the auditory sense
5. Play Alphabet I Spy to practice visual discrimination
6. Mix, experiment, and explore a variety of scents with a Scented Ice Lab
7. Test your oral motor skills with a Hands-Free Ice Cube Race.
Did you know sensory play could be so easy and so beneficial? It doesn’t have to take expensive materials and complex plans to make it work.
