As I mentioned before, we have been in love with our new essential oils. After wanting to try them for quite some time because of the benefits for children with sensory needs, we finally jumped on board. This week we have been exploring the scents and the effects of each oil. In doing so, we found two that we just love. I’ve already shared our lemon sugar scrub, but now I want to share our new favorite! With just a little bit of lavender essential oils, we are ready to calm down and get ready for bed.

After finding our just how easy it was to make our lemon sugar scrub, the kids wanted to make more. That’s how we figured out that this was the perfect gift to make for our loved ones.

Making Energizing Sugar Scrub with Kids

It is surprising just how simple this is to make. So simple in fact that we made two scrub recipes in one day, energizing and calming. The process is only 3 steps and any child can do this activity from preschool to upper grades. The younger children might need a tad bit of help with the measuring and pouring, but honestly any age child can do this. Simply pour all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix until the sugar is completely and evenly coated.

We wanted this sugar scrub to look different than the Lemon Scrub so we added a few drops of purple food coloring. We really wanted to add some dried lavender flowers, but had a very hard time finding some. I think next time we make a batch we will grab some.

Using Simple Sugar Scrubs

What fun is it to make awesome sugar scrubs if you can’t try them out? The boys had so much fun trying out the sugar scrubs after we made them that they couldn’t wait to try them again the next day.

When Bones (7) finished up and dried his hands, he was in awe. He said, “Mom, this is so soft! Wow, my hands are so soft. I could smell this forever.” It was adorable and good to know that our recipe was a success.

Creating “Sleep Tight” Sugar Scrub Gift Jars

We have a lot of mason jars left over from our upcycled wedding. We use them for pretty much any activity we do and they are pretty common in our house. Although we used medium sized jars, you could definitely use smaller jars and have your scrub stretch for more gifts. This recipe made one medium sized jar.

Step one. Making the Lids

Personilized Sugar Scrub Gifts Made By Kids

No matter what size jar you use, you can have your children trace the inside of the lid on the back of the scrapbook paper. We were able to get 6-8 lid templates per paper. If you are a fancy crafter you could use circle cutters, but we aren’t fancy like that.

Once your child has traced and cut the circles, just place the paper in top of the mason jar lid and close the jar. Complete your project with a wrap of twine around the jar and an optional label. Since the kids made these, there are no fancy bows but I think it looks really cute without the bows.
