DIY Percy Jackson Nectar and Ambrosia Ornaments

According to my oldest son Percy Jackson is pretty much the best book series that has ever been written! If you know anything about Percy Jackson, you know that it is all about greek mythology. When asked what we should make for an book related ornament, he was certain he wanted to make these DIY Percy Jackson Nectar and Ambrosia ornaments.

If you have never heard of nectar and ambrosia you are in for a treat. I have asked my son to help me tell you all about them.

What is Nectar and Ambrosia?

Nectar and Ambrosia are the food of the gods. It is not for mere mortals. Instead, it is only for half-bloods (half mortal/half god) and gods like Poseidon, Zeus and Hades. These are 2 of the only 3 foods of the gods that half bloods can eat.

After the Golden Apples of Immortality, Nectar is the next most important for the half-bloods. Ambrosia follows close behind.

Without these foods, half-bloods would be unable fight the titans. Hence the reason, most half-bloods carry nectar and ambrosia with them at all times.

Nectar is known as the drink of the gods. In greek mythology it gives the god the gift of immortality, however in Percy Jackson, it is more closely related to ambrosia.

Ambrosia is the food of the gods. It is known for its ability to give immortality to those who consume it. However, in Percy Jackson is the healing powers that give it its special spot.

How to Make DIY Ambrosia

Percy Jackson Ambrosia Craft

This is probably the easiest part of the project! To make the ambrosia, we wanted to find something that resembled small honey cubes. We thought these beads were absolutely perfect.

Simply, pour the beads into the jar and place to the side until you are ready to secure the cork and add the label.

In a small container, mix together about 1/4 cup of warm water, 2 drops of yellow food dye and about 3 tablespoons of clear glue.

Stir these together until you get a honey like substance. Mix in glitter to your desire. Once you are done with this, pour your liquid into your second jar.

Finishing Your DIY Percy Jackson Ornaments

Now that you have your jars filled. It is time to work on the corks and add the labels.

Threading the top of Percy Jackson Ornament

Carefully thread your eyelet through the tip of your cork and use wire cutter to cut it down to size. We carefully bent our bar back just a tad, so it would catch on the underside of the cork and not slip out. Finally we used just a small amount of hot glue to secure the corks in place.

Next we needed labels. We have made them printable for you here.

We cut our labels out completely (with my help) but if you wanted your children to do this on their own, they could just cut on the rectangle.

Use a little dab of glue to secure them and there you have it… Nectar and Ambrosia… ornaments Percy Jackson would be proud of!
