After getting messy with some galaxy slime, the perfect way to bring your intergalactic explorer back down to earth is with these homemade Galaxy Bath Bombs.

My daughter and I have been making homemade bath bombs for over a year now and there is no end to the creative possibilities! We started out with simple heart shapes and have continued to experiment – making themed bath bombs (like our Disney Princess versions) and experimenting with different scents.
Some colors don’t really result in a nice bath color afterwards (use your imagination) and we have a firm “no green bath bombs” policy put in place by my daughter after a “swamp water” scare.
How to Make a Galaxy Bath Bomb
First, gather your ingredients:
- 1/2 cup citric acid (if not ordering online, citric acid can be found at pharmacies, but we got the best deal ordering ours through a home brewery store — it is a food additive, nothing to be worried about)
- 1/2 cup corn starch
- 1/2 cup epsom salts
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1 tsp water
- 2-3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 2 tsp essential oils (see the recipe we used below)
- Red and blue food dye
- Circle bath bomb molds
Stir all of the ingredients, except the food dye together in a large bowl and then separate out into 3 smaller bowls.
Add a small amount of red food dye to one bowl to make a pink color, a small amount of blue to the 2nd bowl to make a sky blue color, and a generous amount of both to make a deep purple color in the 3rd bowl.
I also added a scoop of each the pink and light blue to the purple mix to make a really pretty galaxy color scheme.
Scoop a tablespoon of the purple bath bomb mixture into the top and bottom of the mold. Layer the pink on one half, and the light blue on another before squishing the two together to form the solid bath bomb.
Let the bath bombs dry for 2 hours before handling.
The essential oil mixture we used for this is:
Focus Essential Oils Blend:
- 30 drops eucalyptus
- 10 drops peppermint
- 10 drops basil

You can add this mixture to the coconut oil, you can add this oil mixture to the main bath bomb mixture, or add individual drops to each bath bomb to control the amount that each bath bomb receives.
Have you ever used bath bombs? Would you try making your own?
