Kick Boredom to the Curb with 100 FREE Summer Adventures for Kids

Whoever said we should “let our kids get bored” have never ever met my oldest son. With a lack of executive functioning skills, getting bored is a tremendously hard thing for him to do. Another thing that is near impossible, thanks to his very logical black and white thinking associated with being autistic, for him, is pretending to travel to far off places and enjoy the adventures that many kids create when they are left to get “bored”. While I get the premise of this notion, it doesn’t always work as well as it should. In an attempt to keep my sanity and encourage creativity, I provide my children with lists of adventures so they can kick their boredom to the curb. Believe me, everyone is happier for it.

When my partner, Radioflyer, reached out and wanted to know if I wanted to help them celebrate 100 years of adventures with them and share how we do adventures in our family, it was a resounding YES!!! I knew exactly what our family needed for a new summer of fun… a printable list of 100 FREE summer adventures that they could refer to anytime they were at a loss of things to do.

Not only does it encourage creativity, it provides them with much needed sensory input and gets them OUTSIDE to enjoy the summer.

100 Summer Adventures for Kids to Kick Boredom to the Curb

If you are a regular here, you know how much of an advocate I am for kids playing outside every single day. We live right outside Chicago, so it is not taken lightly that I include “every day” in there. Yes, I even mean when it is -20. Just suit them up and head outside. However, when summer rolls around I expect my kids to play even more! Let’s enjoy the nice weather, make up our own adventures and build some summer memories worth keeping.

No need to travel to the next biggest theme park, no reason to spend tons of money… NO. Strap on the sandals, head outside and go on an adventure!

Here is a simple printable to make it even easier when the kids start to complain of “I’m bored” and I can’t think of anything to do.

There are so many awesome and simple ways to get outside, enjoy the summer and kick boredom to the curb. Radio Flyer has made it pretty easy as well. My daughter just turned 4 a few days ago and she had ONE wish for her birthday. Now that she is a “big girl” she wanted a scooter like her brothers. However, she didn’t just want any scooter… she wanted a PINK scooter with tassels and a bell. When I found this scooter from Radio Flyer’s build-your-own collection… I knew it was perfect.

I don’t know about you… but that face says… OH YEAH!!! As soon as she hopped on, she filled her pouch with her travel goodies from Radio Flyer’s celebration of 100 days of summer pop-up shop. This was PERFECT!!

First stop…. Mount Puppy! A few months ago we had the honor of getting to go the a local pop-up Travel Agency for kids, put on by Radio Flyer in celebration of their 100 years in business. It was the kickoff for their 100 days of summer event. It was complete with postcards, dragon breath spray, and travel gear.

My daughter doesn’t need much extra direction for her adventures and she is almost NEVER bored. So as soon as she got her new set of adventure cards she was ready to travel to a far off land. She even sent me a postcard while she was gone.

The best part was seeing her brother (who struggles with pretend play and enjoying outdoors) jumped right in to try to go on her adventure with her. He rode his scooter right beside her and commented on how much he loved her new ride!

She’s off on a new adventure…

Where do you think she is off to this time?
