Lemon Lime Fizzy Dough

Welcome back for another month of  12 Months of Sensory Dough Recipes where several bloggers get together to share the exciting sensory dough recipes and a variety of twists and turns.  It is our hope that you will have a one-stop resource for all things Sensory dough! This month we are featuring a huge list of fizzing doughs from No-Cook to Microwaved and everything in between. We had a blast making lemon lime fizzy dough as our little experiment!

We couldn’t help ourselves when it came to making a new dough this month. When we made scented Lemon Lime dough a few months ago, we wondered if we could actually make it fizz. So this month, we experimented again and tried to turn our Lemon Lime Scented Dough into a fizzing sensory masterpiece.

Lemon Lime Fizzy Dough

We love making our sensory doughs a science exploration. This month we needed to make our dough fizz but which is something we are definitely familiar with. We have made fizzy dough before and have explored the perfect ways to make things fizz. Since we had already tried the traditional vinegar fizz reaction, we wanted to try something without the vinegar smell. We wanted to keep all the yummy lemon-lime smell without the vinegar. That’s when we came up with the perfect recipe.

Materials Needed for Lemon Lime Fizzy Dough

Simple 2 Ingredient Cloud Dough Recipe
Powdered Lemonade Drink
Baking Soda

Food Coloring
Bowls
Spray Bottles

Lemons
Limes

Making Lemon Lime Fizzy Dough

We started with our simple Lemon Lime cloud dough that we made a few months ago however we added just a little bit to it.

Making the Lemon Lime Fizzy Dough was super simple and fun. It took us about 5 minutes to make. After making our favorite recipe of Lemon Lime Scented Dough, we added 2 packages of Lemonade powder and 2 tablespoons of baking soda.

Once we had the perfect recipe, we molded and squeezed the dough. The boys loved playing with it, even without the fizzing but they were ready for the fizz.

That’s when we molded the dough into a Lemon Rind. To do this, I cut a lemon in half and scooped out the inside with a spoon. I filled both sides of the lemon with the dough (actually the boys did this and it was great sensory and fine motor practice) . Carefully removing one side of the lemon, we were left with a lovely lemon-lime combination.

Now you are ready for the fizz! Or at least we were. This part is really simple. We simply got our squirt bottles and started to squirt it on top of the lemon. This was my son’s absolute favorite part!

The reaction wasn’t huge but it was fun. The water causes the citric acid and the baking soda to have a chemical reaction. The smell was just wonderful as well!
