Welcome back for another month of 12 Months of Sensory Dough Recipes where several bloggers get together to share the exciting sensory dough recipes and a variety of twists and turns. Lemon-Lime Scented Cloud Dough

Can you believe that before now, we have never had anything on Lemon Lime Adventures that has anything to do with Lemons and Limes. If you have never read our story, you might even wonder where we got the name. The boys and I have decided it is time to change that and bring you some fun Lemon and Lime activities. The first one we are super excited to share with you is this simple Lemon-Lime scented cloud dough.

During the series last year, we explored what cloud dough was, and you can read all about the basis of cloud dough in any of these awesome cloud dough experiments.

What You Need for Lemon-Scented Cloud Dough

Basic Cloud Dough Recipe or Baby Safe Cloud Dough Base
Oil Based Candy Coloring (Green and Yellow)
Lemon and Lime Essential Oils (We use only pure therapeutic grade oils found here)

Using the base recipe, mix together all of the ingredients and make a simple cloud dough base. You want it to be a tad bit on the dry side for this.

Once you have a good consistency, you will want to add the essential oils, coloring and oil together in a separate bowl. Once they are mixed well, add them to your base and mix until all of the color is uniform. We had to repeat this step 3 times for each color to get a bright vibrant color.

Benefits of Lemon-Lime Scented Cloud Dough

Okay, okay. I am sure you are thinking you could just add lemon juice or lime juice to your dough and be done. Why should you add essential oils? I’d like to share why we choose to use essential oils in our play recipes.

Lemon-Lime is Refreshing

By using essential oils, I am able to extend that lovely refreshing scent for longer than with just juice. Plus I don’t have to worry about that nasty sting to the eyes or cuts on a hand that lemon or lime juice would add.

Lemon-Lime is Energizing

Essential oils have a ton of benefits depending on the oil you choose. In particular, Lemon and Lime (or the citrus scents) are great for boosting energy and adding alertness. Adding Lemon and Lime to our cloud dough makes this a great sensory activity to do right before schoolwork or homework, now.

Lemon-Lime is a Mood Enhancer

Your little ones in a bad mood? They need a pick me up? Lemon and Lime are known for boosting your moods and helping you feel awake and happy. What a great way to start a day!

I don’t know about you but I could both look at and smell this dough all day long. Wait until you see what we did with the dough next! It was so cool, but so secret squirrel mission. Hopefully we will get the post up soon to share!
