What Did We Do Today: Lesson Plans for Day 18

chocolate covered pretzelsOur Guide to Daily Lesson Plans, Activities, and Resources

Every day I will post our lesson plans of what we plan to do in homeschool and each night I hope to update how the day went.  Some days the update may be brief and other days I might give you some sneak peaks into great fun we had. My goal is to use this part of the blog as a place to document our learning and hopefully provide resources for other homeschooling parents.

Hope to get accomplished:

  • Continue the Deschooling process
  • Advent Calendar: (A MILLION activities) I keep getting behind!
    • Chocolate Covered Pretzels
    • Necklaces and Bracelet Gift Making
    • Hot Cocoa Buffet
    • Finish Ornaments
    • Sensory Jars
    • Build a City
  • Writing:
    • Write a letter to the Elf
    • Beginning, Middle and End (focus)
  • Reading
    • Legoman: Chapter 7 of Bunnicula
      • Dictionary
      • Comprehension questions
    • Bones Read more Scruffy
      • Word Work
      • Sight word games
    • Read to both boys
  • Online Learning Time
    • IXL (math practice)
  • Science
  • Project work-attempt to finish these
    • Bones: Hat Project
    • Legoman: Tittle Turkey

I think the projects might get tossed…. do you ever do that? Start something with your kids and they lose interest before you finish? How do you handle that?

Notes for today:homeschool

  • Boys were with Mr. X Monday and Tuesday
  • Transition day from Mr. X, He has been dropping them off around 11, making getting things done in a timely manner difficult. What time will he come today? 10:30 today. Not bad
  • We need to try to get to the Library

Reflections on todayhomeschool

Today was incredibly busy but fun. The boys were excited to be home and excited to tell me of their days with Mr. X. They missed Super B beyond belief. It was so cute to see them want to just spend tons of time enjoying her and interacting with her. Did I tell you she is crawling now. Look out world! She is into everything, but for now its at a slow pace that we can keep up with.

I’ve decided that next year for Advent activities, I am going to add a lot more “relaxed” items to our list. Especially since they leave for Mr. X and we never know when that will happen. 5 activities/crafts was just too many today!

At one point I said to the boys… So we haven’t done any reading or writing today. What are we going to do about that? “But Mom, we have to build a city. It’s part of our Advent, and we are behind.” I suggested making a list to plan the city out and Bones responded with “Yeah! That is learning AND playing at the same time! We can write AND get our city ready at the same time. This is great.”

Seeing this excitement in them to read/write/work is one of the biggest benefits to having them home. They are becoming such independent thinkers and creative in their abilities.

Hot Cocoa Buffet was my favorite part of the day! We turned on the Christmas music and enjoyed being a family. Bones even did a little dance for us, which resembles someone having convulsions.

Have you checked out Elf’s adventures yet?

    1. Thank you. I am thinking of restructuring the layout in the new year. Maybe not repeat the accomplished. Just have lessons and green for done, strikethrough for the ones we don’t get to. Would love feedback as I change this feature. I really want to do a weekly wrap up too, but with Christmas, couldn’t get to it. How do you structure your lessons?
