Do you have a little scientist? I do! And we love to make fun science-inspired snacks that are perfect for a Science Party, Halloween, or just a fun after school treat! One of our favorites is this Super Creepy and Fun Petri Dish Jell-O!

This is an easy science party snack that will keep all guests happy while being budget-friendly and time-saving. They need to be refrigerated until just before serving, so plan your fridge space accordingly.
These Petri Dish Jell-O snacks come together super quickly, so they are a great back-up treat if you have something more complicated planned for your Science Party or know ahead of time that you have some time-intensive foods or science experiments that require easy snacks. From boiling the water to digging in, you’re looking at about an hour of mostly chilling in the refrigerator.
We made three different types of Jell-O and presented some of the Petri Dishes at our Science Party with the sprinkles already added, but we left most of the Petri Dish Jell-O’s plain so that guests could create their own “cultures.”
If you’re making these for a grown-up party, they would make a fun twist on the classic Jell-O shot, but ours were strictly kid-friendly!
How to Make Petri Dish Jell-O
First, gather your materials:
- 1 package of Jell-O PLUS water required to make
- Sprinkles
- Petri Dishes
- Measuring cup
Try to pick colors of Jell-O that coordinate with the sprinkles that you will be using. You can just make one type of Jell-O or multiple types like we did.
Make the Jell-O according to package directions.
Pour the Jell-O into the Petri dishes, filling them halfway full.
Set in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Sprinkle with your desired sprinkles to make your own Petri Dish cultures.
