We love making things around here. We also love using what we already have. The other day when I was cleaning and organizing our space for learning, I found mounds of magazines I had been saving. I felt guilty recycling all that paper and not using them. As I went through them to save all the recipes, I noticed something fascinating… There were pages that were covered almost entirely with one color. That is when I got the idea to make recycled construction paper or our upcoming heart mobile to be featured on Red Ted Art’s 31 Days of Love Series.

First thing, first, I had to collect all those beautiful pages. I started the process myself but soon realized that the boys would enjoy the activity just as much as I did. We sat one night in the living room with all the magazines and started to make stacks of color…
Red, Blue, Green, Orange, Yellow, Purple, Black, White and even Gold.
Everyone was getting excited about the pages we were finding. Everyone was starting to find beauty in a Target ad or a page full of blueberries. It was so lovely to have the variations of color.
Once we had all of the magazine pages collected and sorted, I was able to prepare the table for an activity the next morning. Are you ready for the instructions for making your own Recycled Construction Paper?
Supplies needed for Recycled Construction Paper:
- Various magazine pages mostly one color
- Glue
- Water
- Paint Brushes
Instructions:
Create a glue mixture using glue and water. You don’t want it too runny, but the exact amounts aren’t important.
Lay one magazine page color size down.
Using the glue mixture paint the paper, covering the entire page.
(I made sure we rung out the moisture from the brush to avoid too much water)
Take another magazine page color side up and lay on top.
Use your hands to flatten out any bubbles or wrinkles.
Let your paper dry.
Now you have beautiful recycled paper that can be used for a variety of crafts, art projects cards and more. The double thickness makes the paper more durable and the variations in color make it an interesting material to use instead of store-bought construction paper.
We used ours to Make a Heart Mod Podge Collage and to make a heart Mobile for Red Ted Art. Be sure to check back over the next two days to find out how!
