What are Sensory Friendly Valentines Day Favors?
The term sensory friendly is starting to take off. It is not as unheard of in the years past, but what does it really mean? Is it reserved for students or children with sensory needs and disorders or can it relate to everyone?
I am here to tell you… sensory friendly relates to everyone, children and adults alike. In fact, all of us have more than 5 senses and we use them every day of our lives. When I talk about sensory friendly toys or treats I want you to picture an item that can either give a child specific sensory input in a particular area, or they take into consideration the fact that some children are sensitive to a variety of scents, textures, and visual stimuli.
These sensory friendly Valentines Day treats encourage hands on play, while providing children with a tool that can be used in the future for sensory regulation or calming. I have chosen to focus on non-candy treats, as many parents of children with sensory differences or disorders try to avoid as much artificial sugar and dyes as possible. These items range in price from less than a dollar a piece to a few dollars each. I tried to include items for many of the senses that could be for one child or a class of 35. I hope you enjoy this list as much as I do.
