Around Halloween I start looking for simple sensory activities to do with my kids that are fun and, I’ll be honest, a bit “gross”. We are huge fans of simple slime recipes for kids so that is always the first place I turn when thinking of something fun to add to our schedule. There’s just something about Halloween that makes me get out anything creepy, crawly, or yucky, and this disgusting science for kids snot slime recipe fits the bill perfectly!

I know that if you’re anything like me, making “slime” might be making you panic. Trust me, I get it, but I pinky promise this snot slime isn’t going to be as messy as you think! As long as you add enough of the key ingredient, you’ll be totally fine. Plus, kids are messy no matter what, so we might as well help them be messy in a constructive way!
How to Make Snot Slime
What You Need to Make Snot Slime
- 2 Bottles of Elmers Glue
- 2 Cups of Liquid Starch
- 1 Cup of Water
- 2 Diapers
- Green and Yellow Food Dye (to make it snotty!)
How to Make Snot Slime
Making this yucky snot slime is not as difficult as it looks, I promise! You start by pouring 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of liquid starch into each diaper.
You’ll allow the diaper to expand (absorbing the liquid), and then you remove the “fluff” and put it into two separate bowls.
Add green food dye to one bowl and yellow food dye to the other and mix. You want to make sure the color is distributed evenly so that each bowl is nice and snot-colored. (I told you I’d make this snot slime recipe nice and gross!)
Next you’ll add 1/2 a cup of liquid starch to each bowl and mix until it’s no longer sticky. If it stays really wet and sticky, just add a bit more liquid starch! Otherwise it’ll be reallllly messy. Ask me how I know.
Finally, the fun part! Swirl the two colors together and start playing!
Now if you are not of the “get messy and DIY it yourself” then you might love these easy to make slime kits from our friends at Steve Spangler.
