Kids worry. Its not pretty or fun or something we like to talk about. But the truth is, our kids worry. I don’t always gift my little worrier toys and books that address the elephant in the room, but sometimes I come across something I can’t pass up. Simple Gift Idea for Kids that Worry

The other day I was in a gift shop with my kids and I walked past a display that immediately caught my eye. I ended up walking backwards to check it out a bit longer while my kids looked around. You see, what caught my eye was this adorably cute display of little critters.

Normally I would pass right over a display of stuffed animals. We have enough stuffed animals in our house. To be honest, we have enough stuff overall so it takes a lot for me to take notice to a new “thing” to add to our house.

The Worry Eaters did just that. They are amazing. We talk about thought monsters ALL the time around here for being good for turning negative thoughts upside down and easing anxiety.  These fit perfectly with what my kids already understand about big emotions and big worries and I have fallen in love.

Not only are they adorable, they are incredibly useful! Check out some of my favorites below!

More Details about Worry Eaters

At times, childhood worries can be very BIG, and at other times, very small. No matter how big or small the worries, they are all important in the life of a child. Parents can help kids learn to manage stress and tackle everyday problems with ease using word eaters as a tool to identify worries, classify misunderstandings or misconceptions, resolve conflicts and build self-esteem, while promoting the development of healthy coping skills.

Kids who can do this develop a sense of confidence and optimism that will help them after life challenges, big and small. Each family is different, and you as a parent know your child best- between you and your child you can determine if the worries placed inside their Worry Eater are for sharing with you, or if they would like to keep these worries between themselves and their Worry Eater.

Worry Eaters allow children a chance to identify worries and separate themselves from that worry or problem giving the child some time to “take a break” from carrying the weight of that worry. This separation, giving the worry to the Worry Eater, allows children the opportunity to look at the worry or problem separate from themselves.

The act of then sharing that worry with a parent, caregiver or trusted friend can help a child problem solve solutions, face that worry, and/or just acknowledge that the worry exists.

Seriously, how awesome are these simple gifts? They come in keychain size which is perfect for a calm down kit or sensory backpack or they come in large size for a calm down spot or for your kiddo’s favorite stuffy.

These are definitely going under our tree this year! And just in case you are curious… Worry Eaters has no idea I am writing this post. I just really have fallen in love with them!

  1. I love these dolls! My sister actually got one for my niece a while ago. My son is extremely anxious, and although he is 9, I think he would be into them. It’s on my list for him already for Christmas What a great post!
