When Life is Chaotic, What Choice Do You Have?

Life is chaotic. Life is overwhelming. It is easy for the “just a minute” to become “tomorrow” and then “next week”. We have busy schedules, appointments, traffic, meetings, obligations, meal plans, parties to attend, deadlines to meet and so much more. What if it was possible to step away from the chaos? What if you could take ownership over your time and find some peace in the chaos? I think you can!

When Life is Chaotic

Two years ago this was my life. I am sure it might look familiar to you…

5:30am Alarm goes off.
6:00am Get kids up.
6:30am Pack kids in the car and off to school/work.
7-4pm Work (kids at school)
4pm Pick up kids from school
5pm Homework time
6pm Dinner time
7pm Bath/storytime
8pm Kids in bed
Pick up house, get ready for tomorrow, rinse and repeat. Do this the next day, and the next day, and the next day… until they all seem to run together.

If you are like me, you start to long for the weekend. You know, that time when your family really gets to spend some time together. Oh, but wait, now you have a recital, or that family gathering, or you have to clean the house from the week. Before you know it, its Sunday night and time to start the week all over again.

Where is our connection? Where is our slow? Where is the time we get to embrace the people we love most and make memories? When is there even time for it?

When Life is Chaotic, What Choices Do You Have

I recently was humbled enough to be contacted by Rachel Stafford,  New York Times bestselling author and certified special education teacher with a Master’s Degree in education, about her new book, Hands Free Life. In this book, Rachel speaks of 9 habits that anyone can adopt into their lives to live life to its fullest. This book spoke to me!

I have always loved anything I have read from Rachel on her popular blog, Hands Free Mama, however I have to admit a small part of me felt that her love of life and freedom was unobtainable. I mean, let’s be honest… I work from home. I have a child with special needs. I homeschool three children. I work at night, while my husband works during the day. We live in one of the most expensive cities in the country. I am busy.

Wow. Just in those words. Do you see it? So many things that I have a choice over that I use as a crutch, an excuse keeping me from truly being happy with my life. It wasn’t until I read Hands Free Life, that it really sank in. Rachel isn’t talking about becoming completely hands free. She isn’t talking about living in a field of dandelions and singing in the rain. NO! She is talking about simple life changes anyone can make to live a fuller, more fulfilling life.

Hands Free Life Review

This book could not have come at a better time for me in our journey. We have a big announcement and I am scared even typing it right now. However, I have to say that reading Rachel’s words puts comfort in our choice. It reminds me of why we are making this very big decision.

Are you ready for it?

My husband quit his job. Wait, let me say that again. My husband quit his very good paying, very consistent job of 12 years and now works with me at home. Tomorrow is his first “official day” on the new job. You might be wondering why? Why would he give it all up? It was a dream job to many.

When it comes down to it, the answer is simple. He wasn’t fulfilled. He wasn’t happy. He wasn’t bettering other people’s lives with the job he was doing. It’s a huge step. It’s a leap of faith. Many people work and work to get to where he was in his career, and he left it all behind to be closer to the family, to build a life together and to build a dream that could potentially touch millions of lives.

Savoring Life and Embracing Adventure

The truth for him is that he would have done this even if the potential was to only touch one life. In the last two years since starting this blog (which was never in the plan), we have made more decisions that point toward the family, we have connected with more people who are in the same position we are in, and we have found passion where we never knew it existed.

This is just one of the ways we have embraced the Hands Free Life in the midst of our chaotic life, although there are many more and we hope to share this passion with you over the coming months. What are you doing to live a more hands free life when life is chaotic? What habits will you adapt?

  1. WOW! This all so exciting! I am honored and thrilled to be a part of your story! Thank you for sharing your struggles, your hesitations, and your leap of faith! It is very inspiring! I am really looking forward to hearing how this choice impacts your family, your wellbeing, and your future. Something tells me it is going to be very positive! I am so grateful for your support of my work and my book! Wishing you all the best!

  2. Great news. It is the news we have been waiting for. The fear is a real emotion, but coming from a family that made the same commitment 6 weeks ago, I must tell you that YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING. We still wake up each day and feel like it is an extended vacation BUT then the reality settles in and together we make it happen. Big changes are easier when done with someone that understands you and your struggles and frustrations. This is a good thing. I am so happy for you and Mr. LLA.
