A Simple Craft to Help Kids with Big Worries

By Lemon Lime Adventures Leave a Comment

We were ready to go. My daughter had her favorite skirt on, her tights with the flamingos on the knees and her glittery shirt. She was ready for preschool and so was I. “I don’t want to go.” My daughter stopped in her tracks and gazed at the ground. And with that, I knew we […]

How to Create Epic Lego Adventures without Buying Another Set Ever

By Lemon Lime Adventures Leave a Comment

Epic Lego Adventures

Every time we walk into the store, it’s the same thing.  “Can we look at the toys?  Can I buy a LEGO set?” my son squeaks as he looks at me with his wide eyes.  “No, not this time.  You just bought one a couple weeks ago, remember?”  At this point I should put this […]

Dissolving Candy Pumpkins Experiment

Today I had to put on long sleeves and jeans. The weather is turning chilly. There are talks of pumpkin spice lattes and whispers of Halloween are in the air. Super Fun Fall Sink or Float Science Experiment

Fall-themed sink or float science experiment, the perfect Fall science activity!

The weather is cooling down. The air is turning crisp. The leaves are beginning to change. We’re settled in our back to school routine, and things are returning to “normal”. Whatever “normal” is for this house anyways. See, my kids are bothered by hot weather, so we all breathe a sigh of relief when temperatures […]

Squishy Circuits Vampire: A Super Fun Halloween STEAM Activity

I walked into the living room expecting to find my kids lounging around watching Moana again, and I was motivated and ready to find an activity we could all do together. What I found instead? They were both at the table, one of their expensive toys completely pulled apart while they inspected all of the wires […]

Pumpkin Catapult Fall STEM Activity

Pumpkin Catapult Fall STEM Activity

My kids are active kiddos. They would rather run and jump around a room than sit and read a book or fill out a worksheet. Because my kiddos are such active learners, I’ve had to be creative in how I present concepts they are learning at school and elsewhere. Sometimes, they won’t get a concept […]

A Simple Science Activity That Will Get Rid of the Monsters Under the Bed

The Perfect Science Experiment for Kids Afraid of the Dark

I’ll be the first to admit that my four-year-old is not the poster child for a good sleeper. I’m not sure if it was the daily games of “you sleep, I sleep” she used to do with her papa in the middle of the day when she was a newborn, or if it’s the fact […]

Fall STEM Activity: Preventing Apples from Oxidizing

My kids are do-ers. They don’t stop moving, exploring, and learning, even after mom is totally done for the day and wants nothing more than to veg out in front of the TV. On those days, we use simple and fun STEM activities to help the kids stay happy and feel successful, while I get […]

Teach Kids About Super Big Emotions with Superheroes

Teach Kids About Super Big Emotions with Superheroes!

His sister bumped into him. That’s how it started. Instead of getting a little grumpy and getting over it when she said sorry, my son spiraled into a complete meltdown. Sometimes as we grown ups look at these interactions and we can’t understand why our kids react the way they do. Don’t they realize that […]

At first thoughts of ... “I’m not cute enough.
I’m not skinny enough.
My teeth aren’t white enough.” ... flooded my head.
.
And then I took a moment to celebrate the true wins.
.
I CAN smile again.
I DO have joy again.
I HAVE a lot to be excited about. .
Two years ago I couldn’t say those things honestly. .
So today... I celebrate the small wins, the big wins and the wins that are yet to come...
.
What can I celebrate with you?

  • A simple classic game. But so much opportunity for connection.
What’s your favorite family game?
  • This is my date for Valentine’s day.
At 13 I have to embrace every moment he would choose to have dinner with his mama.
Every day might not be perfect but I choose to use moments like these to anchor me for when times get hard.
How are you connecting today?

  • “Papa can you play with me?”
.
His response could have been ... Not right now...
I’m busy.

But instead ... he simply said ... Sure!
.
These two are like peas and carrots.
.
This is a little girl that loves her papa.
.
This is a papa that loves his little girl. .
What appears to be a quick game of tic-tac-toe...
.
Is really just one of many examples of unconditional love.
.
I get so much joy from watching their relationship grow and develop.
5 minutes can make a huge difference.

  • Today my son broke his glasses 👓
.
He wasn’t hit by a football🏈
.
He wasn’t being careless⁉️
.
He didn’t step on them on accident 🤦🏻‍♀️
.
No. He broke them because he was mad. 😡
.
He had a rough day at school (understatement)
.
They use a “seclusion room” when children are disregulated
.
Today my son could NOT calm on his own. .
He shared he went between screaming and throwing his glasses to try to get out...
😡
To crying on the floor thinking he’d never get out.
😭
This was the result. .
I could get mad that we have to get new glasses.
I could scold him for having a fit at school.
I could punish him for all the destruction.
.
Instead, I choose to connect with him.
.
He’s been isolated enough and that didn’t end well.
.
Tonight we will connect and plan how to alter the results when he gets upset.
.
What choices could he make differently?
What could he say?
How could he calm himself next time?
