how else to express those emotions,
then theyre going to keep hitting.
The real problem isnt that theyre hitting.
Its that they dont know how to handle the feelings underneath.
In moments like this, your child is dealing with
their very own Fight or Flight response.

most of us adults have never learned
how to handle this automatic stress response!

Triggers.

We all have ‘em.

It’s part of being human.

Did you know there are two types of triggers?

Let me know if this sounds familiar…
Day is going well, and then WHAM, your kid throws a ball at you and is laughing.
You SNAP, eyes get wide, face becomes stern and you get loud, Why’d you do that?!”

Or, how about this…
You didn’t sleep well but wake up feeling alright. Then you realize you ran out of your fave breakfast. Next all 3 kids need you at the same time for different things. The pressure builds gradually and then you EXPLODE.

That first scenario is your SNAP trigger. It happens in an instant.

The second is a LAVA trigger. The slow build before an eruption of anger.

They’re not the same for everyone, but these triggers happen to all of us.

While they are a part of life, they don’t define us. It’s up to us to understand what’s under the surface of these triggers and to take control of our emotions.
