I wanted to involve my children in the review of this E-book to bring you an accurate portrayal of its ease and engagement with young children.
Step One: We Read the Book Together
I have two boys, Legoman (age 8) and Bones (age 6) who couldn’t be more different as learners. Legoman loves science and is extremely inquisitive; while Bones is very imaginative and engages in pretend play.
Together, as a family, we went page by page through the book on a mission to find the answer to two questions:
How many projects can the children do alone?
How many projects can be done with ingredients we own?
The boys each had a chart and tallied the projects as we went along.
Did you know, we learned…
18 out of 25 projects could be done with ingredients found in our home
We were just missing a poinsetta, borax, and dry ice (1 project).
12 out of 25 projects could be done independently by the children, with minimal to no adult assistance
I still suggest adult supervision, however these projects are simple and easy to follow!
Step Two: Pick your favorite project
I challenged the boys to find 3 experiments they wanted to try and to find 1 that they thought they could do on their own.
There are so many fun experiments, but these were my boys’ favorites:
Santa Boogers (Red Slime)
Fizzing Oranges
Christmas Lights Lava Lamp
Christmas Color Eruption
and
Icy Roads
