If you’ve ever made gingerbread cookies with kids, you know – it takes forever! Rice Krispie Treats always go over like gangbusters with my crew – they love helping to make them and they get to enjoy their treats shortly after as a very quick reward for their “hard work.”
Especially if you are making them with a group, Rice Krispie Treats are great because there is a low risk of missing ingredients, you don’t have to worry about “leaving them in” too long (like you would with an oven), and the kids can really take equal turns adding handfuls of marshmallows or cereal, or stirring the melted marshmallows.
While we used gingerbread-flavored marshmallows for our treats, you can easily use regular marshmallows and add some gingerbread spices to the same effect (I describe how in the note section of the recipe).
