If you are a regular here, you know just how much we love simple activities that foster creativity and ingenuity! Today, I am excited to share a simple DIY Spy Kit, made for kids by kids. This  activity was inspired by two of my favorite Kid Bloggers and mentors, over at Kids Activities Blog.DIY Spy Kit 101 Kids Activities

If you have never heard of Kids Activities Blog, you are missing out! It is my go to resource for simple, easy activities to do with all of my kids. So when they announced that they were publishing their book, 101 Kids Activities That Are the Bestest, Funnest Ever!  I knew I needed a copy and I knew the boys would go crazy over it!

As soon as the book arrived, the boys both sat down and proceeded to look through the book for over an hour each. They took the book in the car, to the restaraunts, and even on a family trip. They were in love! Both boys (ages 6 & 8) decided they would mark their favorite activities they wanted to try with a special post-it note color. Bones (6) picked almost everything artsy and creative, where Legoman (8) picked out a variety of projects that required building, engineering, and creativity.

Reading 101 Kids Activities Book

After all the pages were marked, Legoman had a plan! He decided he needed to use the book to help him make a Super Secret DIY SPY KIT!

The book had two activities that were perfect for the job! Spy Disguises and a Toilet Paper Secret Decoder were a wonderful combo that were sure to make an awesome kit. He immediately got to work (without me involved).

Making DIY Spy KIT for Kids

He read the instructions, gathered his materials and set to make as many disguises as he could. Using nothing but pipe cleaners, his imagination ran wild. He twisted and turned, bent and squeezed to create the important pieces for his SPY KIT.

SPY glasses for kids

First, he made special X-RAY vision googles that would disguise any spy!

Voice Modulator for Kids Spy Kit

Next, he made a Voice Modulating Mustache! He thought he was so clever that he designed something to change his voice. I think he wore this thing for two nights straight! He continued working and made a secret pen (by using a straw and the pipe cleaners) and a secret key that could open any lock. But his kit was not done yet!

Toilet Paper Roll Spy Decoder

He still needed to return to the drawing board ( 101 Kids Activities That Are the Bestest, Funnest Ever!  ) and read how to make his secret decoder! I love how he sat and read all of the instructions and had to work to complete the instructions in order to make his decoder work. Shh… no one tell him, he was reading and doing “work”. He loved every minute of it!

DIY Spy Kit

Now here is the most awesome part of this activity… Its just the beginning. The boys love 101 Kids Activities That Are the Bestest, Funnest Ever!   so much that they have our summer to do list filled to the brim with ideas they want to try. The best part is that most of them are activities that require little to no materials and can be done on their own.
