Some of our favorite things to do around here are to play on the sidewalk is to play with chalk. Lately we have been getting out to play as the weather warms up and playing with chalk is our first go-to play idea.
When the weather is warm, I am pretty sure we are always outside. This causes a few problems when you have a toddler who doesn’t seem to ever fit in any shoes. It also means that finding the right shoes can be tricky because for some reason my little toddler wants to wear cute and “girly” shoes but those are not shoes you really want to send your little one out to play in. That’s why we were super excited when we learned about our sponsors’ new line of shoes, the Made 2 Play Collection, that are made to play! They were the perfect shoe for our little toddler and she put them to the test the first weekend she had them by getting the chalk out and playing her favorite chalk games.
Simple Chalk Games for Toddlers
Fill The Circle
This one is super fun! It is also super simple. The adult can draw circles on the pavement and then lay a chalk piece on the inside. This invites the toddler to fill the circle (or any shape) with their favorite marks. For some added movement, you can have your toddler jump from shape to shape.
Trace the Shoe
My toddler loves this simple tracing game! In fact, one of her favorite things to do is trace everyone’s shoes and then see how big your imprint is when you step away. This weekend, she asked us to each do it side by side.
I can’t tell you how happy I was that the Stride Rite Made 2 Play for girls were so simple to clean! She had chalk up one side and down the other, yet I didn’t need to worry since I knew I could just throw them in the washer!
Did you know that when you add chalk sticks to a cup of water it makes them milky and smooth and really awesome to draw and paint with? Our toddler LOVES to see the vibrant colors when she dips her chalk! It extends her play time by at least 30 minutes every time!
