How to Turn Brushing Teeth Into a Rock Concert

Are your kids anything like mine? You tell them to brush their teeth and then 2 seconds later they are out of the bathroom, shouting “All done!” My kids love brushing teeth, but they do not seem to have any concept of time. That is why we were so excited when we found out about Tooth Tunes toothbrushes that play music. Encouraging healthy dental habits will be so much easier now that we have a toothbrush that plays music for 2 minutes, which is the dentist’s recommended length of brushing.

Brushing Teeth Tips

As I mentioned before, we have struggled with teaching the boys (age 6 and 8) about the 2 minute brushing rule. We have tried everything. We taught them the trick of singing Happy birthday while brushing, but honestly, have you ever tried to sing to yourself while brushing your teeth? It doesn’t work as well as one might hope.

Before we ever got our toothbrushes, we went on Tooth Tunes to hear all the fabulous songs that you can choose from. The toothbrushes come in two sizes, regular and junior with a wide variety of songs to choose from. Immediately, the boys noticed that they could get One Direction and they were even more than excited.

Make brushing fun

“I used to brush for like 20 seconds. Now I brush for 2 minutes.”

I don’t think I am going to have any problems getting the boys to brush for 2 minutes anymore. After using the toothbrush, Bones actually told me..

“Mom, its like there’s a One Direction show going on in my mouth and I’m in the front row!”

The boys went from being excited about brushing their teeth to being stoked about it! Bones has already picked out his next toothbrush.

  1. What an innovative idea! Would have loved this when I was a kid and had braces. Just had a timer instead.

  2. My son has the same toothbrush and it really did/does help to keep him brushing longer.

  3. I don’t get into too many things that are marketed to kids that take the place of good old fashioned parenting but I do love these musical toothbrushes. They eliminate the “can I stop brushing now” 500 times and they actually seem to have a good time while doing it.
    They are fun!

  4. I have a teen and a tween and I have to admit, i’ve heard them humming while they brush. Pretty much they brush on their own now.

  5. That is such a neat way to help kids brush longer! I look forward to seeing some songs for younger kids – I keep seeing them and wanting to buy them, but the tunes are above my preschoolers head!

  6. We used to have a toothbrush with a timer for our son, this would have been even better.

  7. I still remember when my roommate Mike brought home a Justin Bieber toothbrush. He jammed out all the time and my son was super jealous.

  8. My son would love one of those! He has a toothbrush that lights up for two minutes and that works fairly well for us but he is big on music &would love tooth tunes!

  9. I’ve seen these in the store before. I think. Either way it’s a cute idea.
