We are barely into summer and my kid is already driving me nuts with statements of “I’m bored”. This morning he was in a rotten mood. He was arguing with his sister, sulking on the patio, and furrowing at every suggestion I gave him. Finally, I was able to get him to tell me what he was so frustrated about… he was bored. Instantly I had a brilliant idea that used his favorite thing… the fidget spinner. This DIY Fidget spinner hack is exactly what he needed to get out of his funk!

Kick Boredom to the Curb with this DIY Fidget Spinner Hack
I know it’s good for kids to be bored sometimes, but the summer is long, and I can only handle hearing “I’m bored” so many times. Plus, one of my favorite things about this DIY fidget spinner hack is that, once it’s made, it can be used independently by most kids. You can just tell your kiddo to grab their spinner and paper, and they’ll (hopefully!) be out of your hair!
What You Need for this DIY Fidget Spinner Hack
- Fidget Spinner
- Paper
- Bowl
- Sharpie Marker
- Straight Edge
- Guitar Pick (or other “pointer”)
- Tape
Yes, that’s seriously all you need!
How to Prepare this DIY Fidget Spinner Hack
With the bowl and a sharpie marker, draw a circle on your paper.
Use a straight edge to split your circle into eighths.
Fill in each of your “pie slices” with an activity! We chose: clean your room, go for a walk, draw & color, Lego, ride a bike, eat a snack, read a book, and do a chore.
Tape your guitar pick to one edge of your fidget spinner to create a “pointer”.
Now you’re ready to go!
How to Use this DIY Fidget Spinner Hack to Kick Boredom to the Curb!
Whenever you hear the dreaded “I’m bored” whines, pull out your paper and your trusty fidget spinner.
Hold the spinner in the center of your “activity pie” with one finger, and with the other hand spin.
Wherever your fidget spinner’s pointer ends, that’s the activity your child can do!
It’s seriously that simple, and your kid may have so much fun spinning they’ll forget they were bored in the first place!
