Slime Troubleshooting Guide: Making Perfect Slime
Always wondering why your slime never turns out? Want to make sure you’re actually making slime correctly? This slime troubleshooting guide can solve your problems before they even happen!
Basic Slime Ingredients:
The biggest secret is making sure that you have everything you need to make the best slime in the world. We always use:
In addition, clear Elmer’s glue slimes easier than white glue, believe it or not. If you want to make slime perfectly, always use clear glue.
Perfect Slime Ratios:
I’ve found that in most cases, a ratio of 1-1-1 works best for making slime. Equal parts of glue, water, and laundry starch produce a consistent texture that almost never has problems.
Occasionally, we end up having to use a bit less water, part because we like a bit thicker slime, but also weather seems to affect how much water to use.
If I’m using a cup of glue and a cup of laundry starch, I’ll often just use 3/4 of a cup of water.
Common Slime Problems:
Too runny: You probably didn’t put in enough starch. Try a bit more.
Too hard: You probably didn’t put in enough water. You might need to remake your slime.
Won’t gel: There are two reasons this can happen: 1) you didn’t wait 3-5 minutes for the bonds to form, or 2) you didn’t add enough starch. Wait five minutes, then if it still isn’t gelling, try adding a bit more starch.
