15 Best Items to Pack When Traveling with a Baby

We’ve been traveling a lot. When I say a lot, I mean a lot. For the last three weeks we have been on the road. We have packed and unpacked the car more times than I can remember. At one of our stops, we ran into family that was planning a road trip soon and will be traveling with a baby. So, I decided I would help by compiling a list of 15 of the best items to pack when traveling with a baby!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Fisher-Price for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

15 Best Items to pack when traveling with a baby

Here’s the list of the items I think you need to pack when you plan on traveling with a baby:

15 Best Items to Pack When Traveling with a Baby

Diapers | This is pretty much a given, right? I wanted to include it in the list because what I realized every time we packed is just how hard it is to determine how many diapers you will need. For our trip, I packed a diaper bag full of diapers and knew that I could get more in the next town. If you are limited on space, this is the easiest option. If you cloth diaper, you can plan enough diapers for 2-3 days and wash.

Changing Pad | When you are traveling, you never know where you might have to change your baby. Having a simple changing pad is great to pull out at the airport, back of the car, or at your in-laws house.

Swaddle Blanket | When I am traveling with a baby, I like to pack at least 2 of our favorite blankets. This is so I have an extra blanket in case the other one gets dirty at all. (which happens when you are traveling)

Baby’s Favorite Toys | It’s always good to have a few items your baby enjoys the most to take the comfort of home with you.

Baby Carrier | Whether its a sling or a different kind of carrier, having a simple way to carry your child through security is priceless. Tip: Did you know that when you travel with an infant in a carrier, you can go through TSA without taking the baby out of the carrier. They will just have to swab your hands. Packing List for Traveling with Babies Portable Crib or Play Yard | This is really important both for flights and road trips. We have used our play yard on every road trip and couldn’t imagine being without it.  The Ultra-Lite Day & Night Play Yard is half the weight of other popular play yards with all the same great features for truly portable use.

In fact, the Ultra-Lite Day & Night Play Yard is so easy to assemble and breakdown that even non-parents can do it with ease, which is invaluable when traveling with 3 kids on my own!
Baby Wipes | Bring lots of baby wipes! Especially if you are traveling with older children too! These will come in super handy!

Baby Bath Products | I always make sure I bring along my favorite bath items for my baby. I actually pack pretty light, so I just use the soap in hotel rooms for me, but I want to use the right soap for my baby’s sensitive skin.

Extra Clothes | When I am packing for my baby, I always bring outfits that can be interchanged so I can pack lighter than bringing the whole house with us. If I know we can wash when we get where we are going, I pack super light.

Pacis | If your baby still loves pacifiers, then you do not want to go without. You will want to have extra on hand in case any fall between the cracks. Traveling with a Baby An Overnight Bag | It is a complete pain to pull out every item you have in the car at every stop. Its best to have an extra bag packed with one outfit, diapers, wipes, etc. When we pull up to a hotel on a long drive, I know all we have to pull out of the car are the bag and our play yard for the night.

The Ultra-Lite Day & Night Play Yard is versatile, acts as a sleeper, portable changing table, and play yard.

Snacks | If your baby is old enough to eat small snacks, make sure you pack enough to get you to your first destination. A hungry baby is not a happy baby.

Diaper Rash Remedy | Even if your baby has never, ever had a diaper rash, make sure you bring your favorite diaper rash remedy with you. I can’t stand the thought of my baby uncomfortable while we are away from home.

Books | We always bring at least 3 books on every trip. My little one actually has 1 that is her favorite that she has to have every night.

Disposable Bags | In the weeks leading up to the trip, I always save our grocery bags. We take a bundle of these with us for spills, trash in the car and more than anything… dirty diapers.   What To Pack when Traveling with Babies

  3. Baby wipes are insanely practical, regardless the kids’ age. They’ll end up a messy no matter how careful they are, they’re prone to accidents, and we always have these with us everywhere, from the park to a long trip.
